N.J. weather forecast for Thursday: More rain on the way

A break in the steady rainfall has moved into the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this morning, but more rainfall is on the way.

Cool, raw, and wet conditions will continue to linger over the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas through tomorrow morning as the coastal surface low lifts north and another strong low pressure system from the northern Plains approaches from the west. Variable to overcast cloud cover and scattered showers will remain a threat for the entire northern Mid Atlantic with a few showers capable of heavy downpours. While not all locations will experience rainfall today, the threat is clearly present for all regions. Temperatures will be slightly warmer today with highs in the afternoon in the mid to upper 60's over the interior and lower to mid 70's along the coast and in urban locations. Temperatures will fall into the mid 50's to lower 60's for lows tonight into tomorrow morning.

A strong cold front associated with the rapidly intensifying area of low pressure over Ontario, Canada will move through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas tomorrow afternoon and evening with wide spread showers capable of very heavy downpours. As the cold front exits tomorrow evening, winds will veer to the west and northwest and increase to 10 to 20 mph in the evening and 15 to 30 mph by early Saturday morning. Much cooler conditions will return with temperatures falling from the Friday afternoon highs of the mid 60's to mid 70's into the mid 40's to lower 50's by Saturday morning.

A fresh new Polar air mass will be in place for Saturday and Sunday with scattered clouds, low humidity, and temperatures falling back to near to slightly below normal levels. Temperatures will range from the lower 40's to lower 50's for lows and upper 50's to mid 60's for highs this weekend.

A series of disturbances will move through the northern Mid Atlantic for early next week with a risk for scattered showers and cool weather conditions.
