A rapidly developing areas of low pressure over the Southeast and Tennessee River Valley will produce periods of moderate to heavy rain throughout the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas through today and into late this evening.
Waves of moderate to heavy rainfall are already invading the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this morning, creating significantly problems for the morning rush hour. As the coastal low pressure system continues to develop this morning and move towards Virginia, the rainfall, heavy at times, will continue to expand over the region through this afternoon. Winds will also increase from the east and southeast to 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts at times up to 45 mph. Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the mid to upper 60's for highs.
The low pressure system over the Tennessee River Valley will lift north towards the Ohio River Valley this evening and become the dominant low pressure system. The rainfall over the region will peak in intensity this afternoon through the evening rush hour and then start to weaken and lift into New England tonight. Rainfall amounts by early tomorrow morning will range from one to two inches with locally higher amounts from the Delaware River on east while a half an inch to an inch of rain is expected over much of eastern Pennsylvania. Winds will become the primary threat this afternoon through tonight with winds veering from the southeast to southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Overall, poor visibility and the threat for localized flash flooding will be significant issues over the next 18 hours. Temperatures will fall into the upper 40's to mid 50's for lows.
The low pressure system will lift north into Ontario, Canada tomorrow morning which will lead to clearly skies for the region along with rather breezy conditions. As cool, dry air mass will invade the northern Mid Atlantic with temperatures falling back to seasonable levels with highs in the upper 50's to lower 60's tomorrow afternoon. However, with the strong winds temperatures will fell like the upper 40's to lower 50's.
High pressure will take hold tomorrow evening through this weekend with tranquil weather conditions and temperatures near normal. Temperatures will range from the mid 40's to lower 50's for lows and upper 50's to mid 60's for highs through this weekend. Overall a very pleasant weekend is expected as far as the weather.
Another round of disturbances will introduce rain showers into the region for Monday and Tuesday however at this time a major rain storm is not expected. Temperatures will remain seasonable with lows in the mid 40's to lower 50's and highs in the upper 50's to mid 60's.
