I could have sworn there was a recession going on across the United States. But according to the results from Black Friday, apparently that was just an ugly rumor to a lot of people.

According to PRNewswire, IBM reports say that online sales for Black Friday grew by 24.3 percent from 2010. Apple’s iPhone and iPad came in at numbers one and two for mobile shopping, accounting for 10.2 percent of retail sales between them. The Android was third with 4.1 percent.

CNET reports that consumers. spent $816 million online on Black Friday, 26 percent more than in 2010. The most popular retail site was Amazon, with Wal-Mart and Best Buy second and third. On Thanksgiving Day, shoppers spent $479 million online, a 39.3 percent increase.

According to Gothamist, consumers spent a total of $11.4 billion on Black Friday, 6.6 percent more than in 2010 and the largest amount ever.

And unfortunately, incidents are continuing to grow right along with spending. Christian Post reported that a Myrtle Beach woman was shot in the foot outside a Wal-Mart after being robbed of her purse. The shooter struck the woman’s son with the gun, and he required staples in his head from the injury.

And according to ABC News, a Black Friday shopper surrendered to police on Friday for allegedly using pepper spray on 10-20 people in a Walmart store on Thanksgiving, in order to get within closer range to discounted Xbox video game players.

Shop.org predicts that 122.9 million Americans will be shopping on Cyber Monday. A total of 106.9 million bought online on the day in 2010.
