When Stefanie Gordon got on a flight to Palm Beach Monday morning she was planning on visiting her mother for her birthday. Later in the trip the unemployed flight planner from Hoboken heard an announcement from the pilot: “If you all look out to the east you can see the space shuttle.”
Gordon looked, and took a couple of photographs and a short video with her iPhone 3GS as the space shuttle Endeavour rocketed skyward. She then uploaded the pictures to Twitter and sent out a tweet. NASA retweeted her photo. Now it has gone viral.
In a few hours, Gordon was receiving phone calls from ABC, the BBC and CNBC, and she had risen from 1,800 to over 4,700 followers on Twitter. According to MSNBC, she shot three images and a 12-second video about 30 minutes before her flight arrived in Florida.
“To be able to see the last shuttle launch of the Endeavour was awe inspiring, and to have a different view of it was just amazing,” Gordon said to Mashable.
LightBox reported that as of 2:00 PM Monday, her photos of the launch had been seen nearly 200,000 times on Twitpic.
Gordon is a self-described lover of photography, who usually shoots her pictures at Yankees’ games, where she owns season tickets.
