A Union County Jury earlier this week convicted a Newark man on three counts of burglary, theft and resisting arrest, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Angelo Richardson, 53, was arrested on November 4, 2009 in Hillside after burglarizing a house Williamson Street, said Assistant Prosecutor Lucinda J. McLaughlin who prosecuted the case.
After breaking a window to gain entry to the house, Richardson activated an alarm, triggering a police response, said McLaughlin. Officers arrived within two minutes and discovered Richardson in the backyard of the house, rummaging though a plastic shopping bag filled with what would later be identified as stolen items from the house.
Richardson ran from the police officers leaving behind a trail of stolen jewelry, said McLaughlin. He was apprehended a block from the house by members of the Hillside Police Department.
Richardson faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on September 30, 2010 before Union County Superior Court Judge Miriam Span.
