On Tuesday, acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced the arrest of Cesar Clausett-Soto, the man accused of killing Johnny Nazario on May 28 in Newark.
Clausett-Soto, 29, of Newark was arrested without incident Tuesday morning by Newark Police and investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Squad at a private residence on Mt. Prospect Avenue in Newark.
According to Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Nazario, 23, of Kearny was fatally shot on Highland Avenue around 2 a.m. during the Memorial Day weekend. The accused, facing murder and weapons charges, appeared before Superior Court judge Joseph Cassini, III, who set his bail at $1 million.
Nazario was one of three people killed over the Memorial Day holiday in Essex County, reported The Jersey Tomato Press.
Rodney Faniel, 36, of Union was amongst four people shot in the 300 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard in Newark on May 28, 2011. Faniel died, but the three other victim survived.
Isaac-Marquise Wayne, 22, of Newark and another individual were shot at 187 Norfolk Street in Newark. Wayne died, but the second victim survived.
According to the Star-Ledger, no arrests have been made in any of these shootings and the investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-847-7432.
