The South Jersey Transportation Authority encourages Atlantic City Expressway drivers to “Do AC,” as long as they pay for it.
It seems that the SJTA has a number of about $157,000 in outstanding toll revenue, according to CBS Philly. And the deadline to be paid in full is coming soon. Authority spokeswoman Sharon Gordon says if the toll bills are not paid by February 7th, “we will submit a list to the Motor Vehicle Commission, and their registrations will be suspended.”
According to an Associated Press report on NJ.com, the SJTA has sent letters to 147 people and companies who have at least $200 in tolls that are still unpaid. The violators received warning letters last year that they were running the risk of losing their registrations.
The violators received their first warnings in August. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the most recent SJTA warning letters told toll offenders they could schedule a mediation session with authority officials to discuss what they owe.
Also, New Jersey can only suspend the registrations of state licensed drivers. Two of the top 10 toll violators on the Atlantic City Expressway come from out of state.
Drivers can also dispute their toll violations by requesting a hearing through the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.
