Baby boy abandoned on hood of car in Edison

Newborn left naked on towel outside senior care center

A newborn baby boy was found abandoned Friday on the hood of a car parked outside a senior care center in Middlesex County.

The boy, who appears to have been born within 24 hours of his being discovered, is in good condition at JFK Medical Center in Edison.

The infant is described as a white male, 7 lbs., 8 oz., and is 21 inches long.

He was discovered by a nursing home visitor, who called police at 1:53 p.m., after taking the infant inside the facility, CareOne at the Highlands, located at 1350 Inman Ave., Edison.

The infant was naked and lying on a towel that was spread out over the hood of the car.

He is being held for observation at the hospital, and has been placed in the custody of the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, while police search for relatives.

Anyone with information about the baby is asked to call Detective Al Sciarrillo of the Edison Police Department at (732) 248-7561, or Investigator Daniel Ruschak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at (732) 745-3600.

The sister of a friend of mine really WANTS a baby and they are certified foster parents, so this baby was placed with them by Social Services. They hope to eventually adopt him. So maybe this was God's way of making sure he would be loved. (That does not excuse abandonment, but at least the story has a happy ending.)

This was heartbreaking and I honestly feel that the person who left this little baby to fend for itself on the hood of a car, naked and unprotected has about as much motherly instinct as a piece of wood. I really think that the baby should be placed with a couple who will love and take care of him as if he were their own. Why find the mother? She obviously doesn't want him and could care less what happened to him. Why give her the chance to make his life more miserable and maybe even abuse or kill him. She lost that privledge when she left him on the car, minutes after he was born. Even animals have protective instincts. Please don't tell me that she was depressed because that excuse is used for everything these days. Murder, rape, abuse, incest, you name it. Where and when will that end?

Let the baby have a chance at life. Don't look for his birth person. She is not a "mother".
