Police say a Dover man brutally assaulted by two men last week did not know the assailants, according to Detective Sgt. Kyle Schwarzmann.
"He didn't know the suspects. Nobody knew each other," said Schwarzmann who added that it was a case of the victim being in the wrong place at the wrong time, the Daily Record reported.
The two men accused of beating Joseph Hintenach, 47, as he stood outside of the Rockaway home of a friend have been identified as Jason Bough, 33, of Lake Hiawatha, and Christopher Norton, 32, of Stanhope.
Police say the men beat Hintenach so bad with a baseball bat they nearly sliced his ear in half and caused a deep laceration to his head.
Police say Bough and Norton are charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The men, who fled the scene after the senseless assault, were lodged in the Morris County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail each.
Both men fled the scene but were captured a short time later by Stanhope Police.
