A Clifton man was convicted of 1st degree kidnapping Friday, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Edward Alvarez, 44, was also convicted of 3rd degree criminal restraints and making terroristic threats, said Assistant Prosecutor Gregory Fleming, who prosecuted the case.
According to the investigation, on August 16, 2009, Alvarez confined a woman inside her Union Township apartment for more than two hours while threatening to kill the woman and himself. The pair had dated briefly earlier in the year, said Fleming.
Eventually, the woman was able to convince Alvarez to leave the house and later contacted police. Alvarez was arrested later that day in Brooklyn.
Alvarez was found guilty after a three day trial and several hours of deliberation.
He faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on December 3, 2010 before Union County Superior Court Judge Joseph P. Perfilio.
