Sen. Menendez unfazed by reports former CNN anchor will go after his New Jersey seat

Not long after former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs left the network, there were rumblings of a possible electoral face-off between Sen. Bob Menendez for the New Jersey U.S. Senate seat.
Dobbs, a resident of Wantage in Sussex County, parted ways with CNN on Nov. 11, saying that he wanted to "go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day."
The former anchor was known for his views on illegal immigrants — specifically his advocacy for more stringent border control.
This is not the first time Dobbs has flirted with a place in New Jersey politics. He was supposedly considering a spot as an independent candidate in the 2009 election for governor. Though he officially denied reports in 2008, The Star-Ledger reported that it had been a hot topic in Republican political circles.
Still, Menendez was unfazed by the reports that Dobbs would run against him in the next election. His main focus on the election is "jobs, not Dobbs," The Star-Ledger reported. A spokesman for Menendez said he would "relish" a challenge from "an opponent so far out of the mainstream," according to the New York Times.
