N.J. and Pa. legislators to introduce bi-state proposal to reform Delaware River Port Authority

Camden Assemblyman Domenick DiCicco to unveil bill Wednesday

Assemblyman Domenick DiCicco (R-Camden) and Pennsylvania state Rep. Mike Vereb (R-Montgomery) Wednesday will unveil what they are describing as bi-state legislation to reform the Delaware River Port Authority's federal charter.

The Camden-based authority has come under fire in recent weeks for misuse of public dollars and unethical conduct and DiCicco and Vereb have emerged as strong critics. The authority oversees four Delaware River toll bridges and the PATCO commuter rail line between New Jersey and Philadelphia.

Recent revelations include the misuse of E-ZPass transponders by a former top agency official, inappropriate use of agency vehicles and the agency’s refusal to implement an expanded ethics code seven years ago.

The bi-state legislation will address Gov. Chris Christie’s recommendations regarding the authority, including growing concerns regarding political contributions, conflicts of interest, company perks, nepotism and part-time jobs by high-paid public employees.
