New Jersey State Police said the man was hunting with a 12-gauge shotgun when he shot his son, according to South Jersey Times. Authorities said the teenager’s injuries were not life threatening, and the boy was listed in stable condition.
According to an Associated Press report on phillyburbs.com, the teenager was hit under the eye by a pellet of buckshot, and it went back out through his cheek.
The boy was transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the father has not been charged in the incident, as police called it an accident. The N.J. Division of Fish and Wildlife are now handling the investigation.
It was not clear how the teen was hit instead of a deer. Names of the father and son involved in the accident were not released.
