A woman from Franklin Township was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, and harassment last weekend at a building in Gloucester County during a public meeting to discuss property revaluation in her town, officials said.
The woman, Eileen Hart, 47, was arrested after the Clayton Police responded to a report of a possible disturbance, during a meeting held by the Gloucester County Office of Assessment and Appraisal Systems, Inc. reported The South Jersey Times.
The meeting was for Franklin Township residents to talk about the property revaluation program that the county was planning with ASI, in order to get home values up to the current market value.
When the police arrived to the building, Hart was no longer there but county tax assessor Robyn Glocker-Hammond told the police that Hart had been asked to leave after making threats about bringing a gun, said officials.
The police were given information about Hart’s car and after finding her took her to the Clayton Police department where they then confiscated two guns: a .357-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and a .40-caliber Glock for “safekeeping,” reported Infowars.com.
She owns both of her guns legally, reported The Examiner and in an interview said, “I have permits for each of them. Now I can't defend myself. I never said the word 'gun' at the meeting. None of those people would have even known I was a gun owner.”
Hart––who believes that her home was unfairly accessed for revaluation, as a result of her refusal to let an inspector inside of her house while her husband was not present––went to the meeting over the weekend to review the matter.
Hart denies making any threats, and said she only began to recite the Constitution line by line as a way to support her argument, but an ASI employee promptly escorted her from the building.
“I didn’t scream, I didn’t yell,” she said, according to an interview with The Examiner. “I have the right to air my grievances against the government in a public setting. I’ve never threatened anyone a day in my life.”
“She also wouldn’t let me speak and told me to sit down and shut up and listen as well,” she went on. “That’s when the young man came toward me. I knew he was going to put his hands on me. I saw him out of the corner of my eye. I said to him ‘Don’t you dare touch me.’ Then they threw us out of the auditorium. The young man from Appraisal Systems, Inc. was the one going postal, and I believe if he had a gun, he would have shot me (and my family) on the spot. I was calm the entire time.”
