"Smoking Granny” Lynda Farley stands by her beliefs, and isn’t afraid to display them.
The 62-year old Farley, from Kentucky, has won appeals over more than $3,000 in obstructed view fines for her minivan.
According to lehighvalleylive.com, it takes Farley close to 12 hours and 800 miles to drive from Edmonton Kentucky to Warren County to fight her traffic tickets. She has done it about “four or five times,” and just had a $56 obstructed view ticket dropped this week.
NBC 10 Philadelphia reported that Farley beat the ticket because a New Jersey judge said a string of flowers that bordered her van’s windshield did not interfere with her vision.
The law that Farley was cited for by the police officer said that a driver has to have a full view of the road from the front and side windows. But lehighvalleylive.com reported that Judge Ann Bartlett said the ticket didn’t cover the issues with Farley’s van.
Farley’s 2004 Nissan Quest, which she has named the “Liberty Van,” is covered with political messages, signs, decorations, and lights. She says she is fighting for freedom of speech.
Farley said, according to Fox News, "If that isn't freedom of speech, we have no such thing. Besides, my heart and soul is in it and I will defend that to death."
Her trips to fight her ticket have covered nearly 5,000 miles.
