People across the country observing the 60th annual National Day of Prayer will meet to pray for God's intervention on everything from the War in the Middle East to taking down drug cartels along the U.S. and Mexico border.
Thousands across the Garden State plan to meet in mass prayer in observance of the Day of Prayer at events such as the "Praying over the Waters" sponsored by National Day of Prayer, New Jersey coordinator, Minister Parthenia Dixon. The group plans to meet tonight from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Battleship New Jersey and join in mass prayer for the State.

The organization’s goal is to unite the communities and pray for the government, the education community, the media, the church, the youth and families. According to NJ.com, the churches of East Greenwich Township are hosting an evening service of prayer from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Zion Community Church at 242 Kings Highway in Clarksboro. The evening event is offering a light meal prior to the community prayer service. The meal begins at 6 p.m. and the prayer service at 7 p.m. All events are free and will be held outdoors, weather permitting. The West Deptford Area Ministerium sponsored a West Deptford a community prayer service at noon in the main lobby of RiverWinds Community Center. In other parts of the country, residents plan to observe the 60th annual event by gathering in Dallas, Texas, Mexico City and at the U.S.-Mexico border to ask for God's intercession in taking down drug cartels and securing our nation’s southern border against drug trafficking and violence.
Congress enacted The National Day of Prayer, observed on the first Thursday of May, in 1952. Challenges to the constitutionality of this event were made, unsuccessfully, by the Freedom from Religion Foundation after a federal appellate court unanimously ruled against the organization in April 2011.
