The homeless camp called Tent City, located in Lakewood, New Jersey, has been shut down by town officials.

According to ABC News, through the court, the people who lived in Tent City made an agreement with Lakewood's town officials in that they would evacuate if given apartment housing for at least 10 months and then motel housing for two months.

The last of the 120 occupants of Tent City, which began in 2003, evacuated last Thursday, according to NBC News.

There had been several problems the Tent City occupants were having with their surrounding neighbors that even led to court in the past. As the population of Tent City grew, it agitated residents around the city. In March, 2013, the leaders of Tent City agreed to have the site closed down, but only if the residents could be provided housing by the town for at least one year.

The bulldozing of the camp was still met with opposition, however, as there were rallies and protests during the month by residents in attempt to save the land.

Regardless, according to Mail Online, Deputy Mayor Albert Akerman said the closing of the city was done, "the right way by helping these people get housed in a fair and compassionate way."

According to Akerman, the possible plans for the site could include the planting of trees.
