After 2 months of being physically and verbally harrassed at work and notifying management, I contacted HR to advise I would not be returning back to work until something was done - I even had physical proof (emails, etc). HR advised me they would be doing an investigation and get back to me. A few days later I received a termination letter in the mail which stated I was being replaced due to job abandonment!!! The company was relocating 50 miles away 2 weeks later, so they figured if they fired me for job abandonment I couldn't collect. After waiting several weeks for a fact finding interview, faxing over the emails, etc., I was denied...I couldn't believe it. I appealed the decision and had to wait 7 months for a hearing (time I filed for unemployment until hearing date). They ended up sending the letter to the wrong address, and by the time I received it, the hearing had passed. I am a single mother of 3 who had absolutely no income due to false accusations made on my employer's behalf. I lost my car, my apartment and couldn't afford to feed my children. I never thought our government would allow such an awful situation happen to innocent people. I think the burden of proof should fall on the employer, especially if an employee has proof. How can they expect us to survive 7 months with no income? I'm still trying to recover from this entire mess...I want justice!
