The smart car might be considered to be a great urban vehicle, but I drive mine 80 miles a day at an average of 70 mph. I find it hard to keep it lower than 75 because I have so much fun with it. I get about 43 mpg. It's very agile and I have avoided several accidents because of its agility. I feel very safe in it because of the super strong racecar-like construction, electronic stability program which helps the car correct itself in a skid, FOUR airbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic brake assist which senses if you are in an accident avoidance maneuver . One day I forgot that I had my smart car in manual shift mode in first gear and I started to red-line it. The car shifted itself to prevent damage to the engine. Now that's a SMART CAR!
