The dream which ended for local lottery players just after New Year's Day may be coming back again. The Powerball lottery drawing took place Saturday night without a jackpot winner, causing the new jackpot for Wednesday's drawing to expand to an estimated $155 million, with a cash option of $75.9 million.
The new grand prize is the largest Powerball jackpot since June 2, 2010, when one ticket from Ohio won a $262 million prize.
Saturday night was the 8th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner.
According to lotterypost.com, even though there were no jackpot winners, 8 lucky tickets matched the first five numbers for a $200,000 second-place prize, with the closest winner to our area being one from Pennsylvania.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that only one purchased the Power Play option to increase their prize from $200,000 to $1 million.
Lottery players can choose to potentially increase their Powerball winnings through PowerPlay. The New Jersey Lottery site explains that PowerPlay is a special feature that allows a winner to multiply the original prize amount by 2, 3, 4 or 5 times. The Match 5 prize with PowerPlay option will always be multiplied 5X's for $1 million cash. Note that any set prizes or PowerPlay prizes, including the Match 5+0 prize, may be reduced if wins exceed the available prize fund. The PowerPlay multiplier number is selected at random before each draw.
POWERBALL WINNING NUMBERS FOR FEB. 23, 2011:

Many locals may still remember the second largest jackpot in Mega Millions history that we didn’t win earlier this year. Heavy sales nationwide pushed the Mega Millions jackpot to a massive $380 million for the January 4 drawing. Megamillions.com reported two tickets matched all six numbers to split that jackpot, which were purchased in Idaho and Washington.
Powerball is now played in 42 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
