Powerball winning numbers worth $174 million

The summertime may have officially left us, but the Powerball jackpot is getting hotter.

There were no winners in the Powerball drawing last Wednesday. According to 11alive.com, the Powerball jackpot has not been won in 10 consecutive drawings after starting out at $40 million on Aug. 18. Saturday’s game will offer a prize of an estimated $174 million, while the lump sum payout will be $110 million.

Lottery Post reported that the winning Powerball numbers for Wednesday, Sept. 19 were 1, 5, 8, 39, and 50. The Powerball number was 23. Three players matched the first five numbers without having the Powerball to win $1 million, none of them from New Jersey.

Local residents had better luck in the Jersey Cash 5 drawings recently. Lottery.com reported that three winning Cash 5 tickets each worth $142,189 were sold in Camden County, Burlington County, and in Mercer County for the drawing of Saturday, Sept. 8.

The Camden County ticket was sold at Mat Petroleum Corporation in Pennsauken, Mercer County’s was sold at Pantry Farm in Ewing, and the Burlington County winner was purchased at Shoprite of Union Mill in Mt. Laurel.

Meanwhile, the last person to win the Powerball lottery jackpot was Michigan railroad engineer Donald Lawson, who won $337 million on Aug. 15, and chose to accept the cash option prize of $224.7 million.

And ladies, he’s single and looking. Admittedly, it’s possible that you might want to look the other way.

Lottery Post reported that Lawson has posted his profile on dating websites listing himself as a hillbilly who is “stocky,” and has the nickname of “Dinodadog.” He is looking for a woman who is: “Big and beautiful, curvy, full-figured, heavyset, or with a few extra pounds.” He promises to “please a women any way she wants.”

Lawson lists his favorite films as “any pornos.”

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
