Reports say musician/businessman/actor Jon Bon Jovi will be returning to the cinema this year.
Bon Jovi, whose last acting role was appearing in the 2006 movie "National Lampoon's Pucked", has been cast with Robert De Niro and a host of others in the forthcoming film "New Year's Eve".
Contactmusic.com reports Bon Jovi is set to play a successful rock star who accidently bumps into his ex-girlfriend he dumped, played by Halle Berry, at a party. The movie is considered to be the follow-up to last year's successful romantic-comedy "Valentines Day" and will tell the intertwining stories of a group of New Yorkers as they prepare to celebrate "New Year's Eve".
Bon Jovi won't exactly need to research the part of rock star. John Francis Bongiovi Jr. was born on March 2, 1962 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.
In 1983, his band was signed by record executive Derek Shulman. According to biography.com, Shulman was the man who anglicized John Bongiovi's name to Bon Jovi.
In 1990 Bon Jovi wrote the soundtrack for the blockbuster movie "Young Guns", and won his first starring role in John Duigan's "The Leading Man" (1996).
According to MSN Movies, he also has appeared in "U-571" (2000), alongside Matthew McConaughey, Harvey Keitel, and Bill Paxton, as well as in "Pay It Forward" (2000), with Helen Hunt.
Bon Jovi had said last month that he didn't wish to perform in front of the camera again, following roles in "Pay It Forward" and "Moonlight and Valentino".
"(Acting is) so far down the list of things to do these days, because the music has been so great. I've got other philanthropic actions and business stuff going on. So it's not that appealing," he said, according to sify.com.
For a man who appears to choose his acting roles carefully, Bon Jovi is in some good company. The film's cast includes Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Ashton Kutcher and Sofia Vergara.
"New Year's Eve" is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 9th 2011.
