Since the "Real Housewives of New Jersey" first hit the air two years ago, the cast's battles on the screen and off have led to escalated ratings and increased court appearances.
An officer with the Chicago Police Department and his cousin have filed separate lawsuits against the show’s cast members for beating and injuring them at a Dominican resort in February.
According to NorthJersey.com, the lawsuits allege that Officer Adolfo Arreola suffered a broken arm, blurred vision, cuts and bruises after cast members "savagely beat, kicked, punched, scratched, jumped" on him and smashed him in the head with a glass. His cousin, Jason A. Gomez, received a broken leg and a torn MCL.
Arreola's mother-in-law, Yolanda Martinez, is a grandmother of four who said Giudice deliberately sprayed champagne into her face and all over her body. As Martinez tried rubbing the alcohol from her burning eyes, she said cast members were standing around laughing at her.
According to the Chicago Tribune, after Arreola confronted Giudice, he was attacked by cast members that included Joe Giudice, and Albert and Christopher Manzo. Cable network Bravo is named in one of the lawsuits.Mail Online reports Arreola says his arm required surgery when he returned to Chicago and that he is now out of work while he is rehabilitating. Gomez underwent extensive surgery to repair his knee and states that it may be years before he returns to work as an electrician.
Arreola, 42, said that his family had flown to the Dominican Republic to attend a renewal of vows ceremony for his wife's aunt and uncle, which wound up being cancelled.
It all appears to be part of life for Teresa Giudice, who, according to MSNBC, has filed for bankruptcy and seen husband Joe spend time in jail for DUI and license violations since “Real Housewives” debuted.
