To quote their own lyrics, Bon Jovi may be feeling like they’ve been “shot through the heart” after being left off the nominee list for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Last year, the enormously popular band out of Sayerville was nominated for induction but didn’t make the final cut. This time around, they didn’t even get a mention when the nominees were announced earlier this week.
An act does not become eligible for the hall until 25 years after the release of its first recording. Bon Jovi was eligible in the autumn of 2009 but was bypassed.
According to reports, the Hall denied the group entry last year, arguing that the popular New Jersey group lacked the “artistic merit required for enshrinement.” Supporters, on the other hand, argued how few groups were still capable of filling stadiums — something Bon Jovi does on a regular basis. Bon Jovi will have to wait until 2012 for another shot.
Meanwhile, those nominated this year include frat-rappers the Beastie Boys and hip-hop duo Eric B. & Rakim, Philadelphia soul singers the Spinners, ’60s folk-pop star Donovan, funk acts War and Rufus with Chaka Khan, and disco singer Donna Summer.Representing the rock genre are Guns N’ Roses, Heart, the Cure, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
