Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen put her foot in her mouth when she suggested that Ann Romney, wife of Republican U.S. presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, has little knowledge of what working mothers go through because she has never "worked a day in her life."
So retractions and apologies by Rosen were the order of the day. “As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is,” Rosen told the Washington Post. “As a pundit, I know my words on CNN were poorly chosen,” she said. “I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended. Let’s declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance.”
"I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys," Ann Romney responded on Twitter under the handle @AnnDRomney. "Believe me, it was hard work."
According to CNN, Jim Messina, Obama's campaign manager, and other Obama campaign advisers criticized Rosen, saying families are "off limits." Rosen does not have an official role in the Obama campaign.
More negative reactions by Rosen as reported in the Washington Post: Top strategist David Axelrod chimed in: “Also Disappointed in Hilary Rosen’s comments about Ann Romney. They were inappropriate and offensive.”
Michelle Obama added, saying “every mother works hard, and every woman deserves to be respected.”
