What Chris Christie’s F-bomb Story Tells Us About Our Governor

BY REBECCA SHEEHAN
NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM

Share on Facebook! We all know that Governor Chris Christie is none too shy about speaking his mind when it comes to the issues that affect his beloved state of New Jersey. Christie will do anything and everything he can to get his point heard by all – even if it means dropping the illustrious “F-bomb” on national television.

A new book is coming out that is all about the 2012 presidential election, Collision 2012, and a very juicy tidbit has been leaked about what is inside the cover. According to several news agencies as well as a report by Philly.com, Governor Christie, who was the keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention last August, threatened to drop the “F-bomb” on national television if and only if the biographical video that preceded his speech was cut due to time constraints.

Allegedly Christie asked the convention director if he "had ever heard anyone say 'f*** on live television, because that's what he was about to do if the video didn't run," according to the book, "Collision 2012." Afterwards it was noted that Christie then threatened to not give his speech at all. Based on reports released by CBS News, Romney's convention team leader, Russ Schriefer, intervened, instructing the director to play the video.

Other notable Christie nuggets in the book include:

  • Former President George W. Bush had a 45-minute phone conversation with Christie when the governor was considering running for president in 2011. “He kind of asked me then what I was thinking, what were the impediments in my mind, what were the concerns,” Christie told Balz. “It was an amazing conversation.”
  • After Christie decided not to run, nominee Mitt Romney told him he was being considered as a vice presidential candidate. But Christie cautioned Romney that he was a "big" personality who may be ill-suited for a No. 2 gig.
  • Romney ultimately didn't choose Christie in part because of a Securities and Exchange Commission rule that prevented banks from donating to elected officials from states in which big banks were located. This would have dried up campaign contributions from Wall Street if a governor was on the ticket. Christie could have decided to resign as governor in order to run for VP, but chose not to.

Collision 2012 is a tell-all 2012 election book written by Dan Balz, the Washington Post's Chief Correspondent and a decades-long presence on the presidential campaign trail. The book is slated to go on sale August 6th.
