Finding Steve Jobs' funeral will not be easy for Westboro Baptist Church

BY BOB HOLT
NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM

Margie Phelps of the controversial Westboro Baptist Church says her members plan to be picketing at Steve Jobs funeral, but they may have run into a little problem. They might need to find it first.

Funeral arrangements for Jobs may not be released to the public, according to Politics and Computers, due to apparently legitimate fears that the event could turn into a media circus.

Phelps announced the Westboro group’s plans to protest through her iPhone. When people pointed out the irony in that on Twitter, she answered, “Irony is powerful way to publish. By iPhone iPad & iGrace Westboro warns you about hell!”

Jobs’ biological father John Jandali had no comment on the news of his son’s death yesterday. It is not known whether Jobs’ biological parents would be invited.

Politics and Computers reported that when Jobs was born in San Francisco in 1955, his parents – Jandali and Joanne Schieble – gave him up for adoption. His adoptive parents, Paul and Clara Jobs, adopted the future Apple CEO, and Jobs has reportedly had little contact with Jandali.

The Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that the Westboro Church was protected from lawsuits from its protests by the First Amendment. But the Wall Street Journal reports that an appeals court is divided about picket restrictions at a funeral service.

This week a ruling by the St. Louis-based 8th Circuit opposed restrictions in Manchester, Missouri, which limited protests to within 300 feet of a cemetery, funeral home or church, based on the right to free speech being more important.

curious
These extreme, fundamental people like Margie should get a life. Does she comprehend the Bible or the teachings of Jesus Christ. As Christians, he gave us to commissions. 1) To love God, 2) To love our neighbor. I get tired of people who role play God and think that they can judge someone like Steve Jobs. What a hypocrite! R.I.P. Steve!

I think this Margie should go get a life. Hopefully it might be at least 1 percent as creative or productive as Jobs' life has been.....
Actually Jobs is a Buddhist. So I don't know the point of this so call Westboro Baptist Church ????

The westboro cultists are insane and need to die in a fire, in my opinion. However their views on religion are just as valid as any the rest of us hold. No religion can be proved or disproved and is entirely the theory of man. There is no possible way other than "faith" to prove any of it regardless of what the belief/theory is. The wesboro cultists are a menace, not because of their religious views, but because of the extreme lack of respect they continually dish out on the rest of us, and in particular, those trying to deal with the loss of a loved one.

So, to everyone blaming their religion as the cause of their problem consider this. Think of all the millions who have been murdered over the ages in the name of religion. Think of all the extreme intolerance that has taken place in the name of god. And, think of how each of those people committing these acts felt justified in his or her own mind, just as all of you do that your less extreme views are correct and superior to the beliefs of those you disagree with. However, religion in all these cases is not the problem. Regardless of the irrationality of all religion, the real problem is the people who use religion or any other excuse to do bad things. If these people didn't have religion they would find some other justification for their intolerance, hatred and extreme actions.

The westboro cultists, Bin Laden and his ilk that bombed us on 9/11, Nazis, the “church” in the middle ages who burned millions at the stake for not accepting their dogma, all of these are examples of the people cut from the same cloth. They are evil, pure and simple. Religion, while it can be part of the problem when used to incite others, is not the root cause. Stop blaming religion and start blaming the defective humans among us.

Margie Phelps - God loves everyone including the so called fags. That's why, he came to die for us all. On a second note, you look like a fag and i can tell that he still loves you. I however think you should be crucified though but i'm not god.

I think a drone attack on this group is justified. Send them to HELL to meet their true god.

I think the group Anonymous, instead of attacking Facebook, should target this little "church" in Kansas. Ignorance and a complete disregard to tolerance is unacceptable.

We are so waiting the day for old Fred to meet his maker and burn in hell. you KNOW his days as very numbered. Imagine the protests at his funeral. And that b***t Margie will finally get it. But not until I pinch a nice sweet spicy loaf out on Freddie boy's burial spot.

Does Margie Phelps have any idea how hard it is to take her seriously when she dresses up in that outfit?

I agree with you that Westboro Baptist does not represent Jesus and The Gospel but Al Qaeda and all militant muslims actually do represent their religion and the Koran quite well. The Koran tells you to wage war and also to not be friends with Christians and Jews. i believe so called peaceful muslims are similar to backslidden christians

Hey you ignorant savages, there is no god, no hell, just people seeking to have dominion over others, in other words, over slaves. Religion has killed or had killed millions upon millions in the name of religion over the centuries, and now that we are somewhat more sophisticated in the 21st century, people still stay ignorant, still bow down to slavery, still kill in the name of religion. You people are disgusting, especially since you condone murder in the name of religion,.

I always thought God (in any form) was all about tolerance, compassion, and forgiveness. If you really want a conspiracy, Westboro Baptist is really a front for ultra-right wing government operatives, laying to foundation for the elimination of religious freedoms in the country by sowing the seeds of distrust among the masses through grossly incredible anti-social activities (man, I loved thinking that one up!!)

Its too bad the U.S. is becoming known around the world as the nation with the highest incarceration rate on earth and the greatest number of lunatics per capita of any country. Couple that with soaring poverty rates, a corrupt political system and no health care for tens of millions and you've got a mess that just keeps getting worse.

In the same way that we don't call an Al Qaeda gathering a Mosque, the media should stop calling the Westboro Baptist cult a church. Or even Baptist. Even though it's not a perfect comparison, the hatred fostered in these groups does NOT represent their apparent religious origins. These people know nothing of Jesus. They are the Westboro cult.

Since they inspire fear, can we call them the Westboro Terrorists?
wow

Its absolutely amazing that these people even exist. the other day there was another cult (which is what they are really) trying to ACTUALLY convince the scientific community that the earth is indeed flat.

It should be illegal for any religion to be tough to anyone under the age of 18. under that age people are highly impressionable and will believe anything they are told. People like this exist because they have been force feed this BS all their lives and know nothing else, even when all the facts point to the contrary. Thus turning them into hateful god obsessed individuals. The only religion i can possibly think of that does not have serious and negative consequences is Buddhism.

If god hates fags then why did he make fags in the first place? whats that? oh right, because he doesn't exist. Enlighten yourself.
