Included on the guest list for President Obama's White House State Dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao was New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Christie was in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday evening attending the formal affair.
The governor and First Lady Mary Pat Christie were among the guests invited by President Obama, including former Presidents Carter and Clinton, to welcome the Chinese president.
Cresskill resident Michael Kempner, a lobbying firm executive who hosted a fund-raiser featuring Obama last year, was also among the invited guests.
Last year, Obama chose Christie to serve on the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.
Christie, one of the few Republicans at the dinner. said "It's a great night for our country," according to the Washington Post. "It doesn't matter if you're a Republican or Democrat tonight. You're an American tonight. We're honored to be here."
About the shortage of GOP members, the governor did say that being the only one there "makes me unique once again," according to politico.com.
NorthJersey.com reports Christie was scheduled to be back in New Jersey on Thursday to participate in an afternoon news conference in Trenton for the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
