The upstate New York school bus monitor taunted by middle school students in a viral video seen by millions, will not press charges against four of her most aggressive tormenters, police said Thursday.
Karen Klein, 68, of Greece, N.Y., can be seen crying and attempting to ignore taunts in a 10-minute video posted online by one of the boys believed to be bullying her. The boys are students at the Athena Middle School in Rochester, which borders Greece - a town of about 96,000 people - to the east.
In the video, some of the seventh-grade boys demanded to know where she lived so they could go to her home and perform sexual acts, CNN reported. Another boy taunted, “You’re so fat.”
The four boys seen in the video have not denied their role in the incident, Greece Police Capt. Steve Chatterton said. Investigators have spoken to all four of them, as well as their parents.
“Obviously we are upset with what we saw in the video, both as parents and police officers,” Chatterton told reporters during a press conference Thursday afternoon. “But at this time, she has decided she does not want to press criminal charges.”
In the meantime, the Greece Central School District has promised to take action against the four students to the “fullest extent” allowed following its own extensive investigation.
Klein, a grandmother of eight, describes her tormenters as "regular, normal kids" and said that "one on one, they're OK. Just don't get a bunch of them together. That's when the trouble starts," she said.
All she wants, at this point, is an apology and a new bus route. But Klein may get more than she bargained for as online supporters continue to donate to a vacation fund set up one day ago by Max Sidorov, 25, a Toronto nutritionist who saw the video.
"She doesn't earn nearly enough ($15,506) to deal with some of the trash she is surrounded by," Sidorov wrote on the site. "Let's give her something she will never forget, a vacation of a lifetime!"
The fund, as of Saturday morning, tallied $500,000.
As for apologies, two of the four boys have come forward and released statements through the local police department. ABC reports that their full identities have not been revealed due to the death threats they have received.
"I am so sorry for the way I treated you," one boy named Josh wrote. "When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again."

These boys were allowed to continue UNFETTERED for an unbearably long time.Why did she allow it?
She was passive and powerless. Where was her WRATH????? She is the adult?????
No grown man would have allowed these boys to talk to him that way. No strong woman would allowed this for a minute!
These boys all called her by name. These were not bad ass dangerous kids where she may have feared being shot.
ANY strong woman would have been able to scare the sh*t out of these little idiots with PURE WRATHFUL POWER and they would have respected it. Karen has no power, no self esteem and the kids did not respect her and that's why they continued .
NO strong woman with an ounce of self respect would have stood for that treatment for 2 seconds. Her passivity egged them on.
I see her lack of power and participation as 75% of this situation.
There was another adult DRIVING the bus.
Why didn't she IMMEDIATELY ask the bus driver to pull the bus over and put an end to ALLOWING that kind of abuse together with the bus driver?
The boys don't disgust me.Boys are often idiots and women are not respected in this pornographic society .
It's KAREN's sad lack of power and her inability to take care of herself or the situation with htese kids that depresses me. What about the girls witnessing this? What message does this send to girls? Her allowing this kind of out of control abuse?
Just be quiet and take it ?
This breaks my heart. Not the boys - the grown woman. Because this woman was so weak and allowed to be in this situation with young people she did not have the ability or personal power to control.
Love yourself. Love the kids by showing them what is OK and what isn't. Passivity is not ALWAYS the "High Road".

This is what you are creating by coddling and spoiling your kids. Please authorities, throw the book at these kids, then throw the book at these parents for raising kids with no moral grounds or values. I am scared that this generation of children will be the end of our society.
