A room service sales employee who answered the phone when hotel guests called for room service is suing the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino in Las Vegas for pregnancy discrimination.

Melodee Megia worked at the Cosmopolitan from November 2010 until August 2011, when she said she was fired "based on her pregnancy," according to court papers filed in Nevada.

According to lalate.com, Megia says the stated reason for her termination was that she said ‘bye bye’ instead of ‘good bye’ to a room service customer over the phone. The suit claims this was merely a pretext and she was fired “based on her pregnancy."

The suit claims Megia had been subject to harassment leading up to the time of her termination since the hotel learned of her pregnancy.

Attorney Mark Thierman said, according to upi.com, that Megia was "denigrated verbally and was mistreated because of her pregnancy" while having a "behind-the-scenes" job for the Cosmopolitan.

The lawsuit notes numerous instances of harassment from her supervisor and other employees due to her pregnancy.

ABC News reports that in the same lawsuit filing, Megia made class-action allegations for unpaid wages of the hotel's employees. The Cosmopolitan does not allow employees to wear their uniforms outside work and they need to change into and out of their uniforms in an area away from the time clock, which often causes unpaid overtime, according to the suit.

Thierman said that most people in Nevada work for minimum wage plus tips. He called some of the abuses “pretty flagrant.”

Megia is seeking unspecified damages.
