Make it two players from the 2012 Monmouth University football senior class going pro.

The University’s Athletics Department announced today on Facebook and Twitter that defensive lineman Ian Simon signed with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks of the Indoor Football League (IFL). He makes his debut tomorrow night against Omaha.

Simon joins safety Jose Gumbs as current Hawks going pro, as Gumbs signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent.

Simon had a stellar senior year, racking up 35 tackles, 13.5 of them for a loss, nine sacks, two fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.

It has been one heck of a week for Simon, who was not sure of his next move after the Hawks season ended last November. He graduated from the University Wednesday and is now set to make his pro football debut three days later.

The Steelhawks are currently 4-6, fifth in the United Conference.
