The Philadelphia Phillies have had a rough time so far in 2012, having fallen into last place in the National League East standings. But at least Phillies fans can enjoy the antics of their big green mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, when they come to the ballpark.
Well, most of them anyway.
The Phillie Phanatic has been sued by Suzanne Peirce of Abington, Pennsylvania because of permanent injuries she suffered during the Phanatic’s 2010 appearance at the Golden Inn Hotel and Resort in Avalon, New Jersey.
The lawsuit claims that the Phanatic threw Peirce into the hotel pool. Her attorney, Aaron Denker, said the 37-year old Peirce hit the bottom of the pool’s shallow end and has been walking with a cane ever since. “She felt she wasn’t getting any better — and, in fact, she’s getting worse,” Denker said about the filing, according to the Press of Atlantic City.
According to the complaint, Peirce suffered multiple “severe and permanent injuries” to nearly every part her body, including a herniated disk, internal injuries and mental anxiety.
