Google’s rise to prominence in its competition with Apple and Facebook is impressive, but right now Google Maps aren’t doing a couple from Clinton Township any favors.
Laurie Gneiding and her husband live in a log home bordering Round Valley State Park. And the family started to get visitors searching for the park's entrance in 2009.
The house abuts the state park, and was built at the end of a long driveway. And according to gawker.com, that driveway became the Google Maps version of the correct address for "Round Valley Reservoir."
According to NJ.com, in 2010 Gneiding and husband Michael Brady put up four signs. Two say "No Trespassing" and "No Trespassing, Private Road," while a third says "Private Drive," and a fourth is on the property boundary and reads "No Trespassing." But this past May a motorist told Gneiding that Google Maps had directed him there.
Fearing heavy traffic for July 4th, Gneiding made a new sign that says, "NOT Park Entrance... Private Driveway... Google Maps is wrong!"
Drivers still tried to park there.
Google spokeswoman Deanna Yick told PC Mag that users can tell Google about problems by using the "Report a problem" tool on the bottom right corner of the map page.
So Gneiding did — five times.
"There may be occasional inaccuracies and we appreciate the feedback we get about how to improve our tools," said Yick. When asked about how long it may take to fix the error, Vick replied, "It depends on the type of change and how extensive it is."
