The first man in a Los Gatos, Calif. line to purchase the new Apple iPhone 4S was the company's co-founder, Steve Wozniak.

According to the Washington Post, Wozniak unlocked a “Jobs badge” from foursquare, where he posts, which reads, “Here’s to the crazy ones. ThankYouSteve.”

Carriers AT&T, Sprint and Verizon each sold out of their preorder supplies of iPhone 4S’s in the first 24 hours, according to the Los Angeles Times, selling over one million. Bloomberg.com projects that the handset is estimated to sell 2 million to 3 million, and Yankee Group analyst Carl Howe predicts its sales may reach 4 million.

The iPhone 4S is available at Apple stores and its partner wireless carriers, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless. It also can be found at some Best Buy, Target and Wal-Mart stores.

In New Jersey, a Verizon store in Newark reported that it sold out its entire supply of new iPhones except the 64-gigabyte model inside of two hours, according to NJ.com. At a Verizon store in Short Hills, 60 to 70 people were lined up for iPhones by 8:30 a.m., while another 100 were already inside.

An AT&T sales manager for central New Jersey said sales had been strong in his 37 locations, and customers had been lining up as early as 3 a.m.
