With a significant amount of tropical moisture in the atmosphere, overcast to broken cloud cover will remain over the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas today with scattered showers at times due to an area of low pressure off the Delaware coast. The showers will be capable of producing heavy downpours at times. Temperatures today will rise into the upper 60's to lower 70's along the coast and lower to mid 70's elsewhere.
A cold front will approach the northern Mid Atlantic tomorrow and linger over the region through Friday. This cold front will produce scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms through the period. These showers and thunderstorms will be capable of heavy downpours, wind gusts up to 40 mph, and isolated lightning strikes. In addition to the threat for showers, locally dense fog will be a threat each day through Friday. Mild and humid conditions are expected through Friday with lows in the upper 50's to mid 60's and highs in the upper 70's to mid 80's.
High pressure will take hold for Saturday through Monday with perfect weather conditions with temperatures well above normal. Scattered cloud cover can be expected with a wind from the south at 5 to 15 mph. Along the coast, the southerly wind will keep temperatures in the mid to upper 60's for lows and mid 70's to lower 80's for highs due to the influence of the Atlantic. However, just away from the coast, temperatures will skyrocket into the mid 80's to lower 90's for highs. A preview of summer will certainly be in place by this weekend.
