A Bay Shore, N.J. man who was in the hospital for a skin condition received an visitor he would have never expected -- his 7-year-old dog.

Zander is a 70-pound, samoyed-husky mix that John and Priscilla Dolan rescued from a shelter and brought back from starvation five years ago.

According to fox4kc.com, Zander escaped out the back door from the Dolan’s Bay Shore home and followed John Dolan two miles to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. A hospital employee found the dog on the street outside the medical center.

Dolan and Zander often take walks around Bay Shore, but Zander had never been in the area of the hospital, according to Mail Online. Dolan thinks Zander tracked him by picking up his scent. Dolan said, “We don't have any children, we have three beautiful dogs. He's my buddy."

Zander even had to travel under a parkway, by a stream, and across a busy four-lane road during his journey, according to The Huffington Post.

Dolan said to ABC News, “He was moping around for the days I was at the hospital, sitting in my seat and depressed. My wife said he had water in his eyes and looked like he was really sad.”
