Irvington woman, 88, stabbed to death

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced Thursday that the preliminary autopsy results indicate 88-year-old Casetta Blunt was fatally stabbed in her Irvington home.

At approximately 12:25 a.m. Irvington Police responded to the home, located at 18-20 Campfield Street, after receiving a report of an elderly woman found unconscious. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The autopsy completed today indicates she died from multiple stab wounds.

At this time no one has been charged but a person of interest is being interviewed by detectives.

Forensic evidence is being analyzed and detectives remain in the field gathering evidence.

“We wish to reassure the public that we believe at this time this was a targeted incident,’’ said Acting Essex County Prosecutor Murray.

The investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force remains extremely active and ongoing. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
