The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is making an effort to reduce traffic in their offices. Drivers who were born on or before Dec. 1, 1964 are now able to renew their licenses by mail.
NJMVC Chairman and Chief Administrator Raymond Martinez said drivers will receive notice of their eligibility to “Skip the Trip” in November, December, and January. The program begins with licenses that expire in November.
“The more people to take advantage of it, it’s better for them, but it’s also better for everybody in our offices that do have to go because then it’s less people,” Martinez said to CBS New York.
He said that around 50,000 people should be eligible in November.
The Motor Vehicle Commission website says drivers will be mailed renewal forms and instructions, and will receive a new, four-year license within 7-to-10 business days.
Nj1015.com notes that drivers holding a Commercial Driver License, Graduated Driver License, Temporary Visa Restriction, interlock device, boat license or suspension are ineligible, and are required to visit their nearby agency.
The Commission advises drivers to renew before the last day of their renewal month to avoid license expiration. Their web site notes that the agency in Medford is not able to process transactions as of 9 a.m. September 6.
