Obama for America staff delivered petitions containing nearly 11,000 signatures to the state Division of Elections to place President Obama on the June Democratic primary ballot.
Over the past eight weeks, volunteers collected signatures statewide to obtain the number necessary to earn Obama a position on the ballot. The president is not facing opposition in the primary and the focus will be on the Republican side of the ballot where presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney has the support of Gov. Chris Christie.
“The election in November represents a clear choice for Americans between continuing to create jobs and restore economic security for hard working Americans or the Republican candidates want to return to the same economic policies that lead to the economic recession,” Obama state campaign director Jackie Cornell-Bechelli said. “This campaign is counting on people across New Jersey to take on a leadership role in their community and help reelect President Obama to a second term.”
Obama for America opened up its New Jersey headquarters last month at 542 Georges Rd. in North Brunswick.
