Gov. Jon Corzine's re-election campaign has conducted a second mailing, a four-page pamphlet sent to senior citizen voters statewide.
The cover photo depicts a worried-looking gray-haired woman and declares, "There's only one question. Who is fighting for what matters? There's only one answer.''
On page 2, above a photo of Corzine addressing a cabinet meeting, the governor is quoted as saying, "It's about knowing what you're doing. And knowing who you work for. Our administration has taken on more tough problems in the toughest environment since the Depression. And we've made huge progress. But there's more work to be done.''
On page 3, beneath a photo of Corzine surrounded by reporters, the text proclaims Corzine created the first state economic recovery plan in the nation, that he is the first New Jersey governor to cut state spending two years in a row, that he pushed for and won a constitutional amendment that voters must approve new debt, and that he established a prescription price information program for seniors.The text also states that he expanded the senior property tax freeze for 600,000 senior, and that the checks average $1,300, and that he went after income tax delinquents and cheats and brought in $500 million to restore property tax rebates for middle-income families.
The back cover carries an unflattering photo of Republican challenger Chris Christie and the text, "Republican Chris Christie – wrong when it matters most. The same Bush economics that got us into this mess.''
The text also includes a quote from an Aug. 27 column by Star-Ledger of Newark conservative columnist Paul Mulshine that states Christie "has not even bothered to try to comprehend the property tax problem.''
The Corzine campaign conducted its first mailing on Sept. 18.
Christie's campaign declined to discuss its mailing strategy.
