Tracking dog finds stabbing suspect in Glassboro

They say a dog is man's best friend, but that's not the case for Andrew T. Willigar, who the police nabbed with the help of a tracking dog in Glassboro.

Willigar, 24 years old, of Williamstown, has been charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses in connection with the stabbing of Marcus El of Camden, on the night of August 6.

El is believed to have been stabbed in the chest shortly before 8 p.m. in a car he was driving while stopped at Charlotte and New streets in Glassboro, with Willigar as his passenger. El was taken to Cooper Medical Center in Camden where he remains hospitalized after surgery. The two had previously driven to Camden together and had become involved in an argument upon their return to Glassboro.

After the stabbing, El drove a short distance to a service station where he saw a police car and reported the attack. Willigar was no longer in the vehicle.

A tracking dog named Nomad, handled by Gloucester County Sheriff's Officer Anthony DeCicco, picked up a scent from a napkin dropped at the scene of the stabbing, and after a 23 minute pursuit found Willigar in a wooded area behind the Dorothy Bullock School at 370 East New St., where he was arrested without incident. The knife used in the stabbing has not been recovered.

Willigar is being held in the Gloucester County Jail in Woodbury in default of $100,000 bail.

Officers of the Glassboro Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's major crimes unit investigated.
