Residents of Brick, N.J. and surrounding shore areas just can't catch a break.
Brick’s Office of Emergency Management made the call earlier today for residents in low-lying areas of the township to evacuate in advance of a new storm. This system is a nor'easter and is expected to be a quick-moving rain event that could, depending on its track, impede the relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy, the storm that devastated the Jersey Shore just over a week ago.
The Township issued the following statement on its website.
“The Brick Township Office of Emergency Management is monitoring a Nor’ Easter that has the potential to strongly impact our town with high winds, storm surge and flooding. The Brick Township Office of Emergency Management has issued a Mandatory Evacuation for all residents that reside in the low lying waterfront areas of town that are prone to flooding and/or storm surge by Tuesday November 6, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.”

According to a CNN Wire report, Jersey Central Power & Light still had not restored power to over 12,000 customers in Brick, about 37 percent of those served, as of Monday night.
Meanwhile, in Toms River, a major town 14 miles south of Brick, township officials will make a decision later Tuesday whether to issue the mandatory evacuations, reports the Wall Street Journal. Voluntary evacuations could also take place inland.
