Tyra Banks too fat? Yes, said the fashion supermodel about her famous curvy figure in a letter to the editors of Vogue magazine.
Zap2it.com reports that Banks, who also hosts TV’s “America’s Next Top Model,” praised the fashion mag’s decision to ban photos of women who “appear to have an eating disorder,” but added that the modeling industry as a whole still sets the “size” for models at an unhealthy standard.
Banks said during her early modeling days, her size 4 or 6 was acceptable, but she wouldn’t be able to get a modeling gig nowadays because she would be considered too big.
“The truth is that if I was just starting to model at age 17 in 2012, I could not have had the career that I did," Banks wrote, noting that today’s models are a size 0.
She added that the modeling agency back then gave her mom a list of designers who no longer wanted to work with her when she began to get “curvy.” Banks’ decision not to starve herself was the turning point in her career, she said, and she went on to modeling superstardom and later, a successful business empire.
