Nitrous oxide canisters are often used to make whipped cream, but they have become another entry in today’s drug culture. A whip-it is a street name for a form of nitrous oxide inhalant. Inhaling whip-its sent actress Demi Moore to the hospital earlier this week, suffering what has been called a seizure.
People can find canisters of nitrous oxide with kitchen supplies in stores. Balloons filled with nitrous oxide are often found at concerts, and the gas can be taken from cans of Reddi-Whip, according to the New York Daily News.
TMZ reported that a friend of Moore called paramedics after the actress was found shaking and fell into semi-consciousness after inhaling whip-its.
According to the Baltimore Sun, a representative for Moore, 49, said she is being treated for "exhaustion." A statement for Moore read: "Because of the stresses in her life right now, Demi has chosen to seek professional assistance to treat her exhaustion and improve her overall health."
