Wisniewski wants Mitt Romney to answer 2 questions while in New Jersey Wednesday

BY TOM HESTER SR.

Republican presidential nominee frontrunner Mitt Romney will be in Bernardsville Wednesday as the attraction at a private $5,000 a-plate fundraising dinner for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sen. Joseph Kyrillos at a private fundraiser.

On Tuesday, Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), the state Democratic Party chairman, called upon Romney to answer two questions for New Jersey voters.

“While Governor Romney is in New Jersey, I have two questions I hope he’ll answer for New Jersey voters,” Wisniewski said.

"First: Why won’t Governor Romney share the details of his budget plan with the American public?,” Wisniewski said. “While he won’t reveal specifics to ordinary voters, reporters overheard him sharing details with a group of wealthy donors at a fundraiser in Palm Beach, Florida - proving once more that Romney believes the wealthy are entitled to special privileges not afforded the rest of us. He said he would reduce or eliminate the federal deduction for state income taxes as well as property tax deductions. The bottom line is we can only guess what these cuts and others would do to New Jersey families, because Romney has refused to share details with anyone who hasn’t ponied up $50,000 for a private fundraiser.

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
