One of the happiest days of a Shannon Cooper's life, the day of her daughter’s high school graduation, turned sour when she was arrested for cheering too loudly.
Cooper, of Florence, S.C., was arrested as she went down the stairs to the auditorium’s main floor. She said officers walked her across the Florence Civic Center, in full view of everyone attending the graduation ceremonies.
30 officers had been stationed at the center to monitor a crowd of 9,000 people, according to Florence Police Chief Anson Shells. “According to the report, she was disruptive during the ceremony,” Shells told msnbc.com. “Everybody wants to hear their child’s name called and everyone was asked to be respectful and quiet.”
Wwaytv3.com reported that police said it had been announced before the ceremony that anyone who cheered or screamed would be escorted from the building. The officers said the people who got disorderly when they were escorted out were arrested.
