Bruce Springsteen national anthem might put Christie to sleep

New Jersey’s favorite son Bruce Springsteen has been selected to write a new U.S. national anthem to replace the Star Spangled Banner in a poll taken by Vanity Fair magazine and "60 Minutes."

According to vanityfair.com, Springsteen came in at No. 1 with 22 percent of the vote, Dolly Parton was next at 19 percent, Stevie Wonder was third with 18 percent, followed by Bob Dylan at 11 percent, John Williams with 10 percent, Jay-Z with 8 percent and Madonna at 5 percent.

Yahoo! News reported that the poll was taken from a random sample of 1,026 adults who were phoned nationwide between April 27 and 30.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie would probably support a Springsteen anthem, but Christie was accused of falling asleep during a Springsteen concert earlier this year.

The governor said, according to Mediaite, “During ‘Rocky Ground,’ people sat. So I sat up on my seat, leaned my head back, and closed by eyes.”

Christie complained that no one took pictures of him when he was “fist-pumping during ‘Badlands’” and “contorting myself to 'Because the Night’” at the show.

Frances Martel of Mediaite says Springsteen is one of the least equipped musicians to write a song with the emotional impact of the national anthem, and he only appeals to one part of the American population: the working class.

Andrew Kirell counters that Springsteen would have been a fine choice- but says his first pick would have been Johnny Cash.

"The Star-Spangled Banner" has been the official national anthem of the United States since 1931. Springsteen released his album “Born in the U.S.A.” 28 years ago.

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
