Adidas pulled the new Jeremy Scott “shackle” shoes after controversy over the design.
On Monday the athletic giant announced that it is pulling the new product after critics said the shoe evokes thoughts of slavery.
According to the Associated Press, part of the statement read, “The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery.”
The statement went on to say that since the shoe was not physically on the market yet, and only debuted on their Facebook page, they received both positive and negative feedback on the shoe: “We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace.”
