If you ever peruse the "Stork Reports" of your local newspaper and check some of the names parents choose for their newborns, it's hard not to shake your head or sometimes laugh.
I have seen everything from the utterly ridiculous to downright foolish. Last week, we learned a central Israel couple named their newborn daughter after the Facebook "Like" button.
Like's mother, Vardit Adler told Reuters it was important to her and Mr. Adler to assign their children unique, creative and totally new names, the LA Times reported.
"It's short and sweet," said Adler who added that she was surprised by all the attention her daughter's name drew. The attention to the little girl's name began with local newspapers in Israel and spread like wildfire from Mexico to Colombia and finally, the United States.
So far, 4,239 have checked the like button on baby Like's name and the "About" section of her page reads, "Like Adler — the first facebook's 'Like' baby in the world."
Like, who is only six-days old, joins big sisters, 10-year-old Dvash, a Hebrew name meaning "Honey," and five-year-old Pie, as in Mom's apple pie. Adler said Dvash and Pie do not seem to mind their special names and noted that no one teases them about their names, so she's not concerned that children will tease baby Like.
Celebrities who have given their children unique names are Gwyneth Paltrow whose daughter's name is Apple. Basketball Wives co-star Tami Anderson Roman name her daughter, Lyric. Nicolas Cage named his son, Kal-El after Superman. Sylvester Stallone named his son Sage Moonblood. Bono of U2 fame named his son Memphis Eve.
Former Cosby Kid, Lisa Bonet named her son, Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. Tennis player Arthur Ashe named his daughter Camera, while hip hop artist Andre “Andre 3000” Benjamin of “Outkast and Erykah Badu named their son, Seven Sirius.
