Literally just across the river from the Big Apple, the cast of "Jerseylicious" celebrated the premiere of the reality show with a big party Sunday night in Hoboken.
"I'm so excited, I'm so thankful," said Tracy DiMarco of East Hanover, one of the main characters — and a mean one — in the new show.
There were plenty of cheers at the Lua restaurant, located on the Hudson River on Sinatra Drive, when the first episode of the Style Network series came on the screens of the TV sets in the eatery at 10 p.m. sharp.
Most of the players featured in the show, which is set at the Gatsby Salon on Route 22 in Green Brook, were in the house for the celebration, with the exception of one of the show's featured stats, Olivia Blois Sharpe of Montville. As of 10 p.m., when "Jerseylicious" debuted, she was no where to be seen at the party."Jerseylicious" is about the bid by Gayle Giacomo and her daughter Christy Pereira, both of Bridgewater, to successfully relaunch the beauty salon that Giacomo's late husband Danny founded, Gatsby.
The series, which has eight hour-long episodes, has taken some drubbing in the press — including The New York Times — for being the latest in a long list of shows to allegedly mock Jersey by featuring over the top "characters," with big hair, dark tans and thick accents. The Times called "Jerseylicious" the show "witless" and the cast "vapid."

A first glimpse at the next New Jersey reality show: ‘Jerseylicious'
Those shows include Bravo's "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" and MTV's "Jersey Shore." And there's another one in the chute from Oxygen, "Jersey Couture," which will be set at the upscale Diane & Co. formalwear shop on Route 9 in Freehold.
While some TV critics have blasted "Jerseylicious" for being derivative and stereotyping Jersey girls and guys, the cast is asking people to withhold judgment until they see the show. And so far, the "Jerseylicious" characters, who work at the Gatsby Salon, have no complaints about the way they are being depicted.
DiMarco said she loves "Jerseylicious." She believes it shows the cast members in a good light, even though they have their problems.
"They ("Jerseylicious" producers) really capture the heart of Jersey," DiMarco said. "I'm so happy they really took it the classy way and didn't make us or ask us to do anything stupid."
Giacomo waited until Sunday's party to watch the first "Jerseylicious" episode.
"I've been so busy I said I'll just wait and see it on TV," Giacomo said. "I just hope that everybody gives it a chance and watches it. I think if they see it, it's not what they're thinking it's going to be, because I've seen a lot of little different releases that I thought were nothing about who we are. To me, everybody has to watch it and see. "
Daughter Pereira, who manages Gatsby, had already watched the first installment, said she liked it.
"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion," she said. "Close family and friends, people who know us and love us, they have been very, very supportive."
In addition to being about Giacomo's bid to relaunch the Gatsby Salon, the drama in "Jerseylicious" comes from the fighting between hairdresser DiMarco and makeup artist Sharpe, who bears more than a passing resemblance to Snooki of MTV's "Jersey Shore."
On the show DiMarco, who is dating Sharpe's ex-boyfriend, basically says she plans to make Sharpe's work life miserable at the Gatsby.
DiMarco, who boasts about her teased sky-high "helmet head" hair on the show, was laid back and friendly in person at the premiere party. Her hair was not so high, and she was wearing a short, tight strapless animal print dress.
Her family is thrilled about DiMarco's sudden fame, which has included full-page stories and photos of her in papers like the New York Post and Daily News and an appearance with the cast on "The Tyra Banks Show." DiMarco's mother and grandmother are clipping those articles.
"I come home and my mother had this book laid out — in order — of all my things that have come out," DiMarco said. "She doesn't care where she has to drive to get a magazine."
As for her feud with Sharpe, DiMarco said, "I'm only mean to people I don't like, or people who are mean to other people. I don't like Olivia. That's very obvious...I hope everyone likes me, even though I'm a little bit of a nasty bitch."
What's important to DiMarco, she said, is that viewers are seeing her talents as a hair stylist.
"I'm out there showing the world that I love to do hair and I can do it with passion," she said.
Both DiMarco and "Jerseylicious" hair stylist Gigi Liscio of East Chester, N.Y., have had the calling to do hair since they were kids.
As a toddler DiMarco wandered away from her mother in a store, and when her mom found her, she was very busy.
"I was actually braiding the fringe on a leather jacket at the age of three," DiMarco said. "So I could braid before I could talk."
Liscio recalled that as a little girl, she used to give her Barbie dolls layered haircuts.
"It was my passion," she said.
In "Jerseylicious," the story line relating to Liscio has to do with her relationship with her boyfriend Frankie, an old-school macho Italian American. He was at the premiere party, and walked over and gave Liscio a kiss during a press interview, then walked away.
The only male member of the "Jerseylicious" crew is hairdresser Anthony Lombardi of Fairfield. He worked at the Gatsby while his own shop, the Anthony Robert Salon in Verona, was undergoing a renovation.
Lombardi, sporting a jaunty white hat he'd bought Sunday morning at Bloomingdale's, said his own salon is open and he's back there.
"My bread and butter is the Anthony Robert Salon," he said.
But Lombardi added that he is spending some time at the Gatsby Salon during hair for clients he met during his stint there.
Lombardi was the only cast member who was actually lauded in The New York Times "Jerseylicious" review.
"As for the idea of ‘beauty' at this beauty salon, suffice it to say that the best-looking person among the workers or the customers is Anthony, the only male member of the staff," The Times wrote.
Lombardi was so thrilled about The Times' piece that he said he picked up seven copies of it.
His wife Patty, sitting by his side during the interview, said she convinced Lombardi to go to the Gatsby salon to interview for the position - and hence his role in the reality show.
"If you don't go, you're going to regret it," she told Lombardi.
Lombardi is happy with the way "Jerseylicious" turned out, but he admitted he has a biased opinion.
"Just watching it has been absolutely fantastic," he said.

Tracy said something once about how she at least she doesn't hide the way (mean) she is, whereas Olivia is sneaky and fake about her heart.
I get what Tracy is saying here. Until you meet a sneaky, conniving wolf in sheep's clothing, you won't know what it's like to be manipulated by one or stuck in the back either. But, if you are the target of a "nice girl" who is really a bitter person at heart, then you know that just because someone is "sweet" to some people (if it benefits them), it doesn't mean they aren't mean and jealous on the inside.
Some "sweet girls" are so good at spinning the threads to webs that "bully" the Tracy's without it even looking obvious. People like Tracy who don't "pretend" to be "sweet," make themselves easy targets for the "Olivia's" to paint them as the "bad girls." Tracy has been hurt, and hurting people hurt others. But I think with time, maturity and some good introspection...even prayer... she could leave those hard ways behind.
Both "girls" have "issues," that make me not call either "women" just yet. But, shallowness and flightiness and being fake is not a good recipe for a friend. Tracy may come on strong, and maybe he could stand to wax or get a little shaver (electric ones at Sally's Beauty) for that lip hair occasionally, but I believe she wears her heart on her sleeve, and isn't "sneaky." She's "honestly mean," if you will. Rather have someone like that than the sneaky, fake-nice types. They are dangerous if you get in their way.
Olivia cute @$$ Olivia! Your very pretty cute and stylish! love your personality and sad that you have to deal with RuPual shadow I mean she is so hideous well I really think that if you really never did anything to her then she just straight up is jealous of you she has to drill you in the dirt for everything- you've tried being civil but come on you can't be civil when your talking to someone who has a dirt mustache a very twisted personality which by the way needs medication and extinsive years of therapy. Olivia your just beautiful stay that way don't let the bouncer try to scare you for x-mas maybe buy her a load of crap cuz that's what she is!
- Olivia rocks!!! I'm glad we have the same name!
Firstly, I LOVE the show and I just can't wait for the second season. . .
Secondly, I am absolutely appalled by Tracey!! She is a miserable, pathetic human being and she should be disgusted by her filthy behaviour!
I can't believe she can be such a nasty, hateful person and sickeningly enough, be proud of that?! She's a sad, sad excuse for a woman and I hope she knows that one day she'll get what's coming to her. Goodness, her hair looks ridiculous - how can she leave her house, nevermind appear on International television BEING A HAIR STYLEST and looking like that!? Her body is way to chunky to be dressed in many of the outfits she wears. OMW, she's simply a lost cause!!
I really like Olivia so much. She is such a sweet person, with a good heart (although maybe lacks a bit of maturity). She's genuine though and doesn't deserve the horrific treatment from Tracey. That being said, I gotta be honest : OLIVIA NEEDS A MAKE UNDER!!! She's a cute looking, really pretty girl WITHOUT all that make-up. That eyeshadow : EEWWW, and not to mention that horrendous fake tan!! I wish she would be more natural and wear better clothes, she'd look so stunning!! But I'm routing for her all the way :-). . .
Gigi is a sweety pie, I like her too - just think her bf is a bit uhm ugh - sorry.
The last person I wanna mention is Alexa. That is another BITCH!¡! I can't stand her! She is also mean to Olivia sometimes and I just find it so unnecessary. Alexa has such a complex of herself, rates herself so highly and importantly but I think she is a mean, confused and sad person! How dare she call herself 'Glam Fairy' when her make-up looks like utter crap most of the time. That blush makes her cheeks look as though she purposely roasted them in the sun!! LOL
Anyway the show rocks and so does Olivia!! :-)
Seriously, that would be a good reality show in itself....men who work at hair salons dressed as women. I truly think Tracy is a guy.
I don't think the show would be succesful without Olivia and Tracy.
My favourite program at the moment!!!
Not everyone stereotypes and believe all Jersey women are the same as the ladies on the show depict themselves. So grow up and know that you are an individual so stop using the same race card. Oh everyone knows how to use a TV right? Well if this show is that BAD STOP WATCHING AND TURN THE TV OFF!!!!
I hope she gets fired, cause she's always starting the riff between her and Olivia. Everytime something jumps off she starts it. Get rid of Tracy ASAP!
Tracy is completely arrogant and ignorant, she us unattractive, has masculine features and relies on bully tactics because of her insecurities - oh and that boyfriend of yours I'd say sloppy seconds to that - Oliva is Immature and conceited, u need to grow up, learn more and move on - Gigi - Sweet but dumb, Drop that looser boyfriend with "it's all about him attitude" * you're too good for him - Anthony, Hang in there buddy * good luck with your own salon - Alexa, If your sooo good at what you do and brag so much about your talent * what the heck are you doing in NJ?
Having said that, I really like Jerseylicious a lot. I like it because it gives me a view into a world I have never known. It is so incredibly different from my world and the people that inhabit it. Very different culture, even though still American.
Which is to say, that most of the people in my world are nuts & berries types, without any makeup, simple haircuts, flat shoes, fiercely independent, out-doorsy & rugged. I've never been around battling girls like Tracy & Olivia either. So the juxtaposition between that world and my world is extreme.
It's like watching Nat Geo for me (shows about different cultures).
I hope there is a DVD of this show some day. I'd buy it (especially since our brand of cable took the style channel off).
Tracey's disturbing and I can't believe anyone would want her to represent them, either in a salon setting of in a "reality show". I can't watch it anymore. It's all very entertaining until she's featured in a clip.
Obviously the hair is huge and the makeup is atrocious...signed Manolo's---I mean how funny is that? I think we all know makeup is to enhance beauty, not to make us look like we got hit in the face with a softball. BUT I am hooked!!
So, I thank you Jerseylicious for bringing a reality show I can laugh at....and Olivia----Hang in there girl.... the Glam Fairy is pretty damn tacky so do not follow in her footsteps and become a overly made up bitter old lady!!
Although I do find the show entertaining, where I come from (Summit and Chatham Twp), the show certainly does not exemplify a "Jersey girl". It just gives otherwise unaware people more fodder about the Garden State. It's a good thing I have a sense of humor!!
Olivia, you're adorable and stay as honest as you seem to be. Tracy, you come across as a "beotch" who needs to get a life.
Next time I'm back on the East Coast, I think I'll check out the salon.
FYI -- Lorenzo is nothing to be proud of unless you like be portrayed as desparate for a man and like being made to look stupid, which I doubt you are neither. You are a pretty girl, the typical high-maintenance type so be it -- get your shit together. YOU CAN DO BETTER. Maybe Olivia can give you some pointers. "Once a cheater, Always a cheater". You don't want that.
Olivia was woman enough to dump him (it's called integrity). Sorry Sweetie, no one thinks he is a trophy but I guess that's what makes you two the perfect couple.
Last but not least -- your big hair has got to go!! It's too much and takes away from how pretty you actually are.
You are very pretty and believe it or not, I like watching you on the show -- it's so funny how jealous you are of Olivia and that you think it's the othre way around. Honestly, do you know realize that? If not,you need help!
You are pretty, but Olivia is stunning! So quit putting her down to make yourself look and feel better. It's not working in you favor
As one "Real Housewife of NY said it to another " -- you need to get a new hobby.....!
Lorenzo -- you dated the girl for two years...quit talking shit about her now. So not cool.
